Uhhh.. for a page thats about GUIs, this seems awfully sparse for the actual look and feel of said GUIs.

How about some screenshots?

Its very difficult to compare X to Y anywhere on this site. Its just an aggregator, not really an exemplary resource.

The answer to the question posed in the site's domain name is "no", unfortunately.

It looks like it just grabbed the intro to each project's self-description, but blurbs like "Zero-cost ultra-high-performance declarative DOM library using FRP signals" would be worth very little even with screenshots.

"no" is reductive to the point of being misleading.

Cosmic DE is built using iced which is a rust gui library. As far as native, single-platform guis go, I'd say rust is plenty mature.

There's also Bevy, a rust game engine, which, if I'm not mistaken is built on egui(?), and I think supports multiple compile targets.

Between a desktop environment and a game engine, I'd say rust is in a pretty decent place when it comes to gui.

“No” is a straightforward answer to “areweguiyet” in Rust. Many well intentioned and well-invested projects with no winning GUIs means we’re not there yet.

Saying “almost” or “yes” privileges the activity and hype around Rust GUI over actual results. Bevy is the ironic example: a game engine that produces more discussion and code than, so far, one notable & good game.

> There's also Bevy, a rust game engine, which, if I'm not mistaken is built on egui(?)

Not entirely correct, they have bevy_ui as the in-house example but many people use the third party bevy_egui crate

Yes, I think it's trying to be comprehensive (as far as possible) rather than detailed. Given the amount of frameworks listed, including representative screenshots or comparisons for each would be a substantial effort.

The best primer on the current(ish) state of GUI programming in Rust, IMO, is this article from 2025 which is linked on that page: https://www.boringcactus.com/2025/04/13/2025-survey-of-rust-...

Opening that site prompts my browser to download a `Human_fart.wav` file.

Seems like a referrer of HN triggers that. Copy & paste the URL and it works fine. Idiotic.

Seems like it.

> Idiotic.

Yes, seeing how simple it seems to redirect to a page playing the sound, instead. ;)

Almost all the screenshots in this article are “hello world”…

How would screenshots help you in accessing a framework? How would you know whether a button supports accessibility and whether you need to declare it as a button in code or in a DSL? Or whether text editing supports mac-specific shortcuts?

At most it could give you an idea about whether some widgets are supported, but even there a list you could filter frameworks by would be worth a thousand screenshots

Is that actually needed? Styling is largely a user decision. They might have defaults yes, but if you looked at a raw HTML page with no CSS styling, you might come to the conclusion that websites have an ugly GUI...

It absolutely is. Defaults matter, most developers just want a GUI for their app that doesn't look like ass. Almost no one wants to mess with styling.

That's why developers have UI/UX and design experts assigned to them. That's why Figma exists. CSS was an attempt to not have to deal with styling. It failed, and landed in the other direction.

> That's why developers have UI/UX and design experts assigned to them.

Not everybody works in big tech.

This is the mindset that gives you Java-Style GUIs.

I love Java-style GUIs though.

Perhaps it's to show how fragmented the community is.

What's the reason you asked this question? I mean, yeah, you could have stayed silent, and nowadays everyone assumes that pointing out obvious things in a condescending tone is kind of insightful, just because you used enough ellipses.

Back then we all knew: vague rhetorical questions aren't arguments.

Technically, it's not a big surprise at all that someone would restate "you are the product" like it's a revelation. There is nothing novel at all.

And non-technically, yeah, as you said... You tried to weather a paragraph of empty meaning. You know that this comment says absolutely nothing actionable. You've known since word one. Nobody can actually be stupid enough to not instantly see that. It's impossible to not understand it.

Your strategy so far was to just scold. Who of you has expected a productive outcome, given this "mediocre" contribution, to say it veeeeeery friendly?

On the one hand, this really sounds frustrated, and I know why you are (bcs we both know that I'm right).

But beyond that unhappy story, your comment actually made me smile. Linguistically, let's say. And there is no sarcasm at all. It was funny to read!!

I cannot find anywhere in the documentation that shows exactly where or how this "cloud sandbox" is deployed or maintained.

Is this Docker, Kubernetes, KVM/Xen, AWS, Azure, GCP, Fly.io, some other VM tech, or some rando's basement ?

Very little detail and I don't trust this at all.

The canonical solution in this space so far is https://github.com/Dicklesworthstone/agentic_coding_flywheel..., and I would bet that this tool is just a paid version of the same, or worse, just a paid wrapper

hi, I'm VM0's developer. Happy to answer your questions.

I fully agree, without clear architecture docs, I wouldn't trust an infra service either. We're working on technical documentation now.

Here is some quick summaris about our arch, we uses E2B's managed sandbox (Firecracker microVMs), and keep working on our own Firecracker runner implementation (independent of E2B) with experimental network firewall features.

We use E2B because easy to start, no infrastructure needed, but self-hosted give developer full control, custom security policies, run on your own infra.

We're at an early stage and planning to release end of Jan. Detailed architecture docs are coming soon. Feedback welcome!

I am also a bit confused by how this is all presented but it seems to be on GitHub too: https://github.com/vm0-ai/vm0

Especially with the wait list sign up.

Incorrect, only some UUIDs are random, specifically v4 and v7 (v7 uses time as well).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universally_unique_identifier

> 00000000-1111-2222-3333-444444444444

This would technically be version 2, which would be built from the date-time and MAC address, and DCE security version.

But overall, if you allow any yahoo to pick a UUID, its not really a UUID, its just some random string that looks like one.

> if you allow any yahoo to pick a UUID, its not really a UUID

universally unique identifier (UUID)

> 00000000-1111-2222-3333-444444444444

It's unique.

Anyway we're talking about a package that doesn't matter. It's abandoned. Furthermore it's also broken, because it uses REPL without importing it. You can't even precompile it.

The video shows closer to 2 seconds for it to finally throw itself over in what could only be described as a "Thunk". I figured it would be a little more smooth.

I use NP++ almost my entire day, and this would be great for short breaks. Awesome job!

I 100% agree with this take: adding Bandcamp to this "media" app is a really shitty thing to do.

I personally know a few musicians who use Bandcamp to either exclusively make a living (along with touring), or to supplement their income. Some are overjoyed when they get a few sales a week on a release. This POS software denies that opportunity.

Either way, 99% of the artists are small independent musicians, and this just skips the Purchase album or track and just freeloads off the small MP3 player on each album page.

Its disgusting.

Artists can disable full-length previews if this is a concern. Otherwise, I don't think Bandcamp's 320kbps MP3s are any more attractive than a YouTube rip.

Previews/free streaming on bandcamp is 128 kbps mp3 only. If you buy music there, you get the whole spread, lossy and lossless, mp3 320/v0, aac, ogg, flac, even wav. (Only thing notably missing at this point is opus, which would be fantastic to have, like for example, opus at 64k (space saving/space efficient) and 256k (quality), although vorbis or aac at whatever quality they have it set to is pretty good as a space efficient option)

I've had the same issues as you, and here are some things I've done or tried as a remedy.

Try going into Android "Developer options" and enable the option "Disable Absolute Volume". Some devices cannot handle the way Android maps the "master" volume of the system to Bluetooth. With the option enabled you will have a separate slider to adjust the Bluetooth volume, and the volume buttons will instead only control the "Media" volume.

An alternate thing to do is under the same Developer Options is instead of disabling Absolute control is to change the Bluetooth AVRCP version to at least v1.5. v1.5 AVRCP introduces the Absolute Volume control functionality.

But, it could also be what you may have are Bluetooth devices that do not support Absolute Volume, or lack AVRCP v1.5 compatibility. If none of this works, I suggest purchasing the "Precise Volume 2.0 + Equalizer" app. I use this as it gives you more fine-grained control over the number of steps in the volume slider (for example, I now have 100 steps). It also allows you to calibrate the number of steps to a specific device, so you can literally change how many steps from quiet to loud. It's worth all of the $10 it costs, and has other nice quality of life features as well.

We need another Bell Labs where people can experiment without immediate monetization. Look at the history of lasers and such. Took decades but now we have femto pulse lasers for Lasik and such.

Google just did that with LLMs and decided (with the endless layoffs) that they would not continue "subsidizing" their competitors.

Kinda related, anyone know of something similar for Windows? This is definitely going in my toolkit, but I need something similar for Windows client traffic inspection (tls 1.2+) to get the full picture. Working with proprietary client/server coms over tls. Can use a special debug build, but requires shutting down and replacing. Need something in-sutu.
