Ok, Doomer

It's fixed enough for how much they want it to be fixed (I.e. how much they are being paid to fix it)

Exactly this.

If people were just honest with their objections, then we could be unified, but currently we're fighting misinformation that are trying to stop 5MW computer closets and projects that are trying to be a drop in replacement for a _steel mill_ (which should be an automatic approval)

If you go to doomer places on the internet (this thread included), you will see the internet as doomed

Where to go to see the internet is blessed with a future of truth, fraternity and general goodness?

VC fund meetings, maybe?

Imagine a steel mill trying to exist in America today...

Sell attention for ad space? That describes both of em

This is about a DC in Nashville -- it is on the Cumberland river.

As someone who lives in the great lakes region, we don't assume that because the resource is large in comparison to a human being that it is an endless resource.

DCs operate at the scale of agriculture, even this one will consume/expel significant resources.

Are they asking for treated water? What's the concentration of residual metals, bromine and salts? Who is monitoring it?

It's inconvenient. Think of it as tech debt. You can either pay it down now, or you pay it down later.

Is this DC even for LLMs? I've not seen any sign of that.

Considering that the initial build out was only 10MW, it seems unlikely that was the primary usecase.

They allow the "infrasound" people go unchecked even though they are basically the same as the tin foil hatters.

One of the guys leading the effort is active on threads (probably twitter too). He has no interest in negotiating. He is gloating over his win hardcore and has very absolutist views when it comes to datacenters

Hat tip for the additional source. I have no love for people in this fight looking for a "total win/defeat". It is a dumb way to approach large construction projects. Can you share some links to the Threads account?

Here's one account, @rooey.wav

https://www.threads.com/share/BAQzYUI7Nf/

There's another account that I thought was something like @stopdatacenters but I'm having trouble finding it atm

Once you get audience captured on a single topic like that, you are damned to being the biggest champion of it forever.

Happened to lots of influencers during the whole vax debacle of COVID. Mostly sane people who didn't catch a big break until they mentioned there might be mercury in the covid vax. Five years later and they are still tugging those lines.
