yes they can what the hell are you talking about? i would wager "being hurt by words" is something close to a universal human experience

What the hell are YOU talking about? Of course words can't actually hurt you. Being bothered <> hurt. You can hurt yourself perhaps in response to words but words can't do it, you have to apply the meaning and the hurt internally, as opposed to say rockets, which can hurt you without any involvement on your part at all.

You're working on a very simplistic definition of harm, if not bleeding means not hurt. Almost toddler-like level.

Wasn't holocaust caused by words?

I bet you are fun at a party.

you would probably like the book Invisible Women. Touches a lot on this subject and how there is so much "missing data" when we talk about these things and it carries through to the modern day

To the best of my knowledge a vanishingly small proportion of historical society was literate and it was an even smaller subset that authored anything of note. It isn't historical women that are invisible it's >90% of everyone. The written accounts are whatever the elite of the elite deigned to write down which those that came after chose to bother preserving.

True, but farming was still somewhat visible to many of the elite. The bible (old testament) has a number of farmers who were also elite.

The whole point of the elite is that they don't have to do the hard work.... It's like Jefferson being out in the fields picking cotton whilst paying for a bunch of slaves.. a highly dubious proposition

That is ONE elite. There have been many elites over history with different levels of wealth and different things they did. Those who could afford a lot of slaves were not out in the field, but not all elite were that wealthy. I'm sure Jefferson wasn't picking cotton, but that doesn't mean no elite were out in the fields.

Yeah you should check out this book, would enhance the best of your knowledge. While you're right, even within that cohort there is a massive gender difference and it impacts how we view society in a big way

That sucks to hear, i wish you were getting shamed more frequently in public

For what taking pics when skiing, kayaking and other times when my hands aren't free and Im already wearing glasses. For taking pics of nature and taking pics of friends and family whom asked for a picture?

Let's see if Google/Samsung's upcoming smart glasses releasing Fall 2026 get as much flack as Meta who many techies hate Meta/Facebook.

> taking pics when skiing, kayaking and other times when my hands aren't free

GoPros are great for that. You can get one that is small enough to stay out of the way, have a more secure mount than glasses and a recording device that doesnt try to hide the fact that its a camera.

I hope so!

no you don't. just because some nerds say it doesn't make it true. just bring back pluto and nothing else

Science works on logical rules.

What logical rule would you propose that allows Pluto to be a planet without also bringing in a bunch of others?

If you just want to arbitrarily declare things are they way you like them to be, religion is over there.

>What logical rule would you propose that allows Pluto to be a planet without also bringing in a bunch of others?

The rule would be: pluto is a planet, stay mad nerds

I don't have a dog in this fight, but the real rule appears to be "that's the way I learned it in school".

That sure does seem to be the only argument on the "keep Pluto around but nothing else" side, "I learned it this way and I'm done learning"

Why don't you like Eris?

what's with the pearl clutching?

It's like their system prompts have a line that says, "Use analogies everywhere. Humans love analogies."

“Humans are very stupid so make sure to use childish analogical writing”

There must be people who talk like that.

There must be people who think like that.

There must be people who will find nothing disturbing if read or hear such a sentence.

It's all the 1900s 'proper English' that's in the training material. There are indeed people who talk like that.

do you realize this is really annoying and don't care or actually think you're being helpful?

I'm open to the idea that some things are unnameable but would need an example :)

I'll write you as soon as I can

People move out to the suburbs after they're married with kids? How is that unhinged?

It's just a strange comment; feels off. Like you're an Easterner imitating an American or something. Very odd.

Or AI. No telling.

Peoples talking styles are being changed by AI. Son online, you get real people, AI slop, and real people that are adapting.

But generally, the migration to the suburbs is a pretty studied thing. I assumed it was just a known phenomena.

So

There was farms to city. For few decades.

Then city to suburbs. for few decades. (cities deteriorated)

Then Covid, and here you are correct, some people that lived in cities for jobs, did migrate to 'smaller cities' when they could work remote.

And now? Seems like people are building little mini-cities? Where they can live, work, and walk to shops. People want the city feel, without the large city hassle? Like a village? But, not just a small town, its like new planned small towns. Back to the village.

I had a particular feeling about it and I looked into his other posts and he appears to constantly say explicitly "I'm an American, I'm from America, as an American" (a sentence I've probably never once said in my life) with constant China apologia; very odd.

oh come on, you can't seriously be comparing those two. One of them can form complete sentences

As incomplete as the sentences from one of these may be, their "weave" style tickles the attention mechanisms for their most ardent supporters, and comes across as heartfelt, relatable, and ultimately a coherent stream of consciousness dump.

In other words, complete sentences are the province of the elite.

In at least two languages.
